October 12, 2012. A day I am sure that Ryan Poston's family and friends will never forget. The day he took his last breath. Only 29 years old, Ryan was handsome, wealthy, and a well respected attorney. That night his on again/off again girlfriend Shayna Hubers called local 9-1-1 to advise that she had shot him. She told the dispatcher that she had shot him in self defense and that she " shot him an extra few times" because he kept twitching and making noises and she knew that he was going to die anyway. Insert personal opinion here: this bitch is a loon. She is crazy and the more I talk about her, you will get a VERY clear picture of why I say that. Moving on...did I mention that she waited 15 minutes after shooting him to actually call 9-1-1?? Yup, I guess she needed time to get hysterical and try to cry ( rolling my eyes so hard). The police came to Ryan's condo and was able to take Shayna in without further incident. One of the things that made this case so sensational was Hubers taped interview at the police station. When I tell you that I had to watch this interview over and over because I seriously did not fucking believe what I saw, I am not lying. The police did mirandize her, but as we all know, even though an accused has a right to remain silent, some just do not know how to shut up. This was the case with Shayna Hubers.
In the interview room, Shayna began to talk about the events of the night. She had stated previously that she wanted an attorney and at that point police are not allowed to ask any questions without an attorney present. However, Shayna started talking and honestly never stopped. She [told the officer that Ryan had been abusive the entire relationship and that night had been no different. She stated he had thrown her around the room, up against the television set, and then to the floor. She stated that he was on drugs and that after he abused her that night he sat at his dining room table and yelled at her, insulting her, and kept telling her he hated her. During this taped "interview" which really was no interview considering the police were not allowed to ask her anything, Hubers stated that Ryan was very vain and part of why she shot him additional times was because his face would have been badly disfigured. Yes, you read that right. She shot him MORE so that he would not live with a disfigured face. Yea. She also told the office in the room that Ryan wanted a nose job and she gave it to him. " I gave him his nose job he always wanted." She pointed to her nose and said I shot him right here. She also made other statements like " I don't know if anyone will ever wanted to marry me now that I have killed a boyfriend in self defense." And then, the officer gets up and leaves the room ( I would have too because sitting in there with her would have freaked me the fuck out...again lunatic vibes) and Shayna is left alone for a couple of hours. during this time, She sings and hums Amazing Grace....she breaks out a few ballet moves, and talks to herself. Shayna says "I did it. Yes I did!" and " I am so good at acting." Apparently, she didn't realize that she was being taped this entire time! Let's go back a bit and look at the relationship. Let's look at how it started, what happened, and how ultimately, it ended in murder.
Ryan and Shayna connected on Facebook in March of 2011 when he sent her a request on Facebook. They ended up meeting April of 2011. They were a pretty steady couple up until November of that same year. They would text often and see each other occasionally. Shayna would always be the one that would text more as we women tend to do. After November, they would start the break up/ get back together cycle. In April of the next year, Shayna claims that Ryan was bad mouthing her to other people and when she came to confront him, he threw her out of his condo on to the doorstep. After that, the couple broke up until July of the same year. Shayne states that when they did get back together, Ryan had told her she needed told her that she would need to participate in sex with other females, speak less, and get a hobby to work on while at his condo. She also claimed that he would attack her about her eating habits and degrade her in public in front of others. As a result, Hubers had told her friends that her love for Ryan had turned to hate and that once when they were at a shooting range she wanted to " Turn around and shoot him and pretend it was an accident." This relationship was tumultuous to say the very least.
Ryan's family and friends paint a whole other picture of what happened in the relationship however. Ryan had been telling his friends and his father that he was ready to end the relationship with Shayna because of her behaviors. His receptionist at the time stated in court that Ryan came in one morning looking very sad. When she asked him what was wrong he asked her " How do you break up with someone that doesn't want to breakup with you?" He also asked her how she felt about men that had to get restraining orders. During the trial, it came out that she had sent THOUSANDS of text messages and Facebooks messages to Ryan. It was clear ( in my opinion) that she was obsessed with him. The day that Ryan was killed, he had a date that night with a new woman. The beautiful Ms. Ohio Audrey Bolte. Ultimately, that is why he was killed. Shayne knew he was really moving on and she could not have that.
The night of the murder, Shayna states that she was abused by Ryan but according to court documents and downstairs neighbors that testified in the trial, there were no signs of a domestic dispute. The furniture and Tv Shayna claims she was thrown up against was not moved. The neighbors did not hear any altercation. During the trial, several former cellmates testified that Shayna told them there was no altercation that night. What it boiled down to was Ryan asked her to leave so he could go on his date. She didn't want him to move on, so she killed him. She was obsessed. She would hack his Facebook and delete people she didn't want him to associate with. She would break into his condo when he was not home. She even on occasion would self inflict injuries and bruises and show them to Ryan's neighbors claiming he had abused her. She stated that Ryan called her crazy and unstable....wonder why???? Maybe because SHE WAS!
Shayna claimed the night of the murder, Ryan was sitting at the kitchen table " wacked out on drugs" and had his gun on the table. He was an avid gun lover and owned many guns. She states that Ryan was waving the gun at her Saying he could kill her and get away with it. After he laid the gun back down, she stated she was fearful for her life so she picked it up and shot him.
Shayna was indicted for murder on December 20th 2012. On January 16th of the following year, she entered a not guilty plea. Her trial started on April 13, 2015. She had remained in a Campbell County, KY jail awaiting her trial as she could not make her bail. It took the jury 5 hours. 5 hours, to come to a verdict. Shayna was found guilty of killing Ryan Poston. She was sentenced to 40 years with the possibility of parole after 20 years.
Shayna appealed her conviction and it was overturned on August 25th 2016 granting her a new trial. This was based on the fact that one of the jury members was a felon. Ok....why was this not checked? How hard is it for a COURT to run a damn BACKGROUND CHECK?!?!?! But the second trial still rendered a guilty verdict AND this time, she was given life!!! Yes with the possibility of parole but her sentence was more harsh the second time around. She has to serve 20 years to even be considered for parole in 2032.
In June of 2018, Shayna married a fellow inmate named Richard McBee. She then in August of 2018, married a transgender woman named Unique Taylor. Guess what? This is the same person. Yup, she married him as a man and then as a woman. 7 months later, Shayna filed for a divorce.
I have no doubt in my mind that this was a clear cut case of obsession. Shayna Hubers was psychotic and she could not handle the thought of Ryan being with someone else. I guess the old saying came into play " If I can't have him, nobody can."
